How we started?
Our journey is inspired by the legacy of Mr. Kameshwar Faninath Chaudhary, who grew up with a strong vision of community growth and social responsibility. His maternal-grandfather was a pivotal figure in the Bhoodan Movement of 1951, led by Acharya Vinoba Bhave, which redistributed land to more than 2 lakh landless farmers and their families, positively impacting countless lives.
Carrying forward this legacy, Mr. Kameshwar Chaudhary shared his vision with Mr. Vivek Malik, who together than laid the foundation of WeMIGA movement. Together, they aim to unite like-minded individuals, corporations, social organizations & government bodies to address pressing societal challenges and create significant, lasting change.
Through innovative projects and collaborative efforts, WeMIGA is working to create a sustainable, inclusive economy that benefits both people and the planet.
Our Inspiration
The Bhoodan movement was a voluntary land reform movement in India that began in 1951. The movement was led by Vinoba Bhave. He was inspired by The Sarvodaya Movement of 1948 which was started by Mahatma Gandhi, a political philosophy and social movement. The word “Sarvodaya” is a Sanskrit term that means “progress of all” or “universal uplift”. The Bhoodan movement’s goal was to reduce the gap between rich and poor by persuading wealthy landowners to give up some of their land to the landless.
What happened during the Bhoodan movement?
- The movement began in Pochampally, Telangana, when a landlord donated 100 acres of land to the villagers.
- Bhave traveled across India, collecting land to distribute to landless farmers.
- In 1954, Bhave started the Gramdan movement, which involved the donation of entire villages.
- The movement received international attention and inspired similar movements in other countries.
What was the impact of the Bhoodan movement?
- The movement was a model of nonviolent social justice that aimed to create a more equitable society.
- The movement inspired similar movements in other countries.
- The movement’s ideas were incorporated into policies and schemes in Britain.
The Movement not only tried to solve the agrarian problem, but generated an irresistible energy among people. In two years, they had succeeded in collecting 3.3 million acres of land against the target of 2.5 million acres.
